http://autocollections.com/index.cfm?id ... s&tab=sold Already sold, but some good info. Went to this place in Vegas last month. The only Firebird they had was a 1989 T/A Indy Pace Car. Priced at 39.5K. Out of my price range for sure. I wasnt a big winner or I would have thought about having it shipped to my door.

That DT500 was froste31's old car.
It was the display car for the 1983 Detroit Auto Show.
Owned by a GM big wig after the show.
It was the earliest DT500 that I have found to date and has the single fold down rear seat.
I have the build sheet for it.
It is a really nice example of a DT500 except for the shift knob........

Do you know how much it sold for at the Vegas location?? Just curious. All the cars they had in that place were big bucks.

Details: 19,000 original miles. In 1983, the Pontiac Trans Am was selected to pace the 25th Daytona 500. To commemorate this event, 2,500 limited edition Trans Ams were built. Officially called the 25th Anniversary Daytona 500 Pace Car, this special T/A was loaded to the hilt and the price showed it. The exterior was graced with a two tone white/charcoal paint scheme complete with "Official Pace Car" decals for the door, "NASCAR" decals for the rear quarters, and "Pontiac" decals for the front windshield and rear glass. Decorating the front fenders just above the "Trans Am" name were "25th Anniversary Daytona 500" emblems. A new graphic adorned the power bulge of the pace car's hood and an "Aero" ground effects package was also standard equipment and in 1983 only available on the Daytona T/A. Special 15x7 white "Aero" wheels put the finishing touch on the exterior. Two powertrain combinations were available for the Daytona T/A. First was the standard carburetor 305 producing 150hp and mated with the new for '83 T5 5-speed transmission. The second option was the Crossfire Injection 305 producing 175hp and mated with an automatic transmission. The WS6 suspension package which included rear disc brakes was also standard equipment. All Daytona T/A's came with Recaro seats which were leather trimmed with suede inserts. The dash gauges were backlit in red, a special dash plaque and "Daytona 500" floor-mats rounded out the interior package. Notable options included T-tops, heavy duty radiator, heavy duty alternator and 15" silver turbo-fin wheels.

you learn something new every day - I never noticed that single-piece back seat before! I figured they all had the 2-piece. Interesting.

Stupid question from a newbie, but my car has a 1 piece rear fold down seat too. Is that unusual for a 1982??

solid rear seat is normal for all 1982's. 1983 and up is when they went to a split rear seat, which is why that solid-seat Daytona is unusual.

I posted it some where but it was a $50.00 credit on the 1983 cars that were supposed to receive the split fold down rear seats.

Found it.
While looking at wildjeff's site, there is a CDB talking about the split fold down rear seat not being available and the full-width being substituted for the cloth cars. The leather cars would be held until it was available. I suspect that the DT500's needed to make schedule and did not follow this rule. So we see a few of them with the full-width folding rear seat. It gives a $50.00 credit so the DT500 package for those cars should be $6,400.00.

The following photo is from wildjeff's site.
