Rumor has it, that some L69 engines made it into some 1983 Daytona 500 Trans Ams (w/190 HP and 240ft/lbs of torque and only came with a T5 manual transmission).

The 8th digit of the VIN tells you what engine the car came with:

F = 151 ci L4 LQ8 (1982-1983)
2 = 151 ci L4 LQ9
1 = 173 ci V6 LC1
H = 305 ci V8 LG4
7 = 305 ci V8 LU5 (1982), L69 (1983)
S = 305 ci V8 LU5 (1983)
G = 305 ci V8 L69 (1984)

So, I have been searching for one, maybe in vain!

Maybe they just made it into late build 1983 Trans Am's that weren't Daytona TA's.

Do you have the breakdown of the entire 1983 TA production mix?

Does anyone else think they exist?

I keep looking for my lucky 8th digit "7" in the VINs.

Here is a great site for the complete VIN breakdowns: http://www.fbodydomain.com/VIN/VIN.asp

No confirmed DT500's with the L69 installed from the factory.
The DT500 ceased production by the time the L69 came out late in the model year.
Anything is possible...I suppose a big wig could of had one built.
There is one 1983 L69 with the AERO package that Tom Goad had built and raced and was used in photos for the upcoming 1984 Trans Am.

Most books state that California received the LG4 with the automatic since they could not get a 5-speed.
That information is wrong.
The LG4 and automatic was not available in the US.
But two confirmed examples have turned up in Canada.
One of which had a three speed automatic, engine block heater and non-CCC carb.
I can't remember what the second one had.
