Aluminum Turbo Hood

Postby brother al » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:18 pm

Hi. I know this is the rarest of T/A Parts. But if anyone knows of one, please let me know.

1982-83 Aluminum T/A Turbo Hood aka Bulge Hood

The last stockpile of GM aluminum hoods was used on the Firehawks.

i have yet to see an aluminum one and the only thing other than steel on any third gen anything i have ever had/seen was an 83 z28 l69 700r4 with fiberglass stock z28 hood but one corner was busted on it.

all the firebirds including my lg4 82 regular trans am have had steel flat or p/g hoods.

my 82 gas engine car has non functioning PG with the honeycomb screen in it and no other parts on or below it

the 82 lg4 regular trans ams were this way and the most common ones sold

have an aluminum hood on our 01 aurora and omfg!!! its light like a feather, crazy.. really., its really odd feeling to pick it up and not weigh anything at all haha :P i unbolted it while we replaced the transmission in the car, so i could overhead crane hold up the engine so i could drop the entire cradle from under the car and let the engine down some to get the trans out
1982 trans am ws7 sold summer of 2010. have lots of 82 83 48 trans am parts still so try me!! text me 217 671 7792 or email me, as i RARELY check PM inbox or forum posts! or hit me up on fastr68 on yahoo messenger!

outside of pictures you likely never will. They were an otion in only 1982, possibly very early 1983, over the counter, and the leftover stock was forgotten until SLP scooped them up in 1991 and used them on the 91/92 Firehawks.

Thanks, I think... LOL

I'll find one eventually. I've found a lot of rare goodies over the years for other cars... a complete Air Grabber system & hood for a friend's '71 GTX, a Buick "Starwars" air cleaner, I even have my HO Camaro dual snorkel unit system that does not have thermovacs.

Sure, rub it in! LOL!
I will find one sooner or later... its just a matter of waiting, watching, and searching the many "lost in time" junkyards scattered all over New England & New York State... sooner or later!

Many said I'd never find a completely intact Recaro T/A w/a 5 speed... & an '84 no less... Hell, if people can find ultra-rare experimental aluminum RA V blocks, I'm sure I can find a mass produced hood. Yeah, Its a crap shoot, but as I've said before, there out there & I'll find one sooner or later. I think I'm gonna have a harder time finding NOS '84 Recaro stripes.
